Raised Bed Gardening For You
Gardening is an all-time favorite pastime and hobby. Some people garden simply for the joy of it, and others garden for the practical purpose of supplementing their family’s food bill. There is all sort of advice out there for the gardener, whether expert or beginner.
Many people in urban and suburban areas are now getting into gardening for the first time, due in part to a faltering and poor economy. Consequently, they may have very little space to work with in terms of setting up a garden. A very popular method to overcome this obstacle is what is known as “raised-bed gardening”. Let’s look at how to start one of these space-economical gardens.
The main principle behind a raised bed is that you are not going to need to dig up your current soil. Besides, many areas do not have optimum soil conditions for productive gardening. Instead, you will create user-friendly raised beds to plant in.
The most popular method is to get some 10 inch wide boards. Finished lumber is best, as it will resist rot and deterioration better. The idea is that you will hammer some 10+2 inch boards into a rectangular shape that is four feet wide and eight feet long. Four feet wide makes it easy to bend over and tend the garden.
