Planting a Vegetable Garden
Planting your own vegetable garden can be a very satisfying venture for a new gardener. The beginning gardener will soon find out that this process involves much more than planting seeds into the soil and waiting for a vegetable to appear. Planning and preparing are critical to a successful garden.
Planning what you want in your garden in advance is important. The location of where you plant is equally important and finding a spot with good, adequate sunlight that has good dirt is very essential. Six hours of sunlight is required to have a successful garden. Finding ground that allows the soil to drain is best for your vegetables. A place that is open and can get good air is also important. Being close enough to run a hose to your garden for home watering is essential.
Remember to plan ahead for space and consider what plants you want to grow and how many of them to allow room. Weeding is so important to a garden to allow the plant to get the most water and sun it needs to grow. A fence around your garden may be useful to keep animals out and these fences can also be used for beans, tomatoes and other plants that need to be held up and supported. Draw out a picture of what your garden will look like and don’t worry about how your rows run as much as how you plant vegetables in them.
Tallest plants need to be on the north side of your garden and shorter ones in front so you can allow sun to reach all the plants.
